MALIBU, Calif.Jazmine Orozco and Kellie Woolever of the Pepperdine women’s volleyball team earned AVCA All-Pacific Region honors, the organization announced today. This is just the fourth time in program history the Waves have had more than one student-athlete selected to the first team in a single season.

Pepperdine boasts 15 total all-region first-team award winners, in addition to two honorable mentions.

The last time the Waves had two first-team honorees was in 2002 when Lyndsey Hache’ and Katie Wilkins received the recognition. Wilkins would go on to be an AVCA All-American second team selection that season.

Last year in 2011, Kim Hill and Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) were both voted to the all-region list – Hill on the first team, Woolever as an honorable mention.

Orozco (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS/Illinois), in her first season in Malibu in 2012, paced the Waves and ranked third in the West Coast Conference with 3.84 kills/set. She totaled 449 kills during her junior campaign which ranks sixth in Pepperdine’s single-season (rally scoring era only) record book.

The junior outside hitter has picked up a myriad of awards this season including All-WCC first team, WCC Player of the Month (October), NCAA Player of the Week (9/18) and WCC Player of the Week (9/17 and 10/30).

Woolever, who was tabbed an All-WCC first team selection for the second time in 2012, led the conference and sat in 20th in the NCAA with 11.32 assists/set. She quarterbacked Pepperdine’s offense to a .257 team hitting percentage which ranked third in the league and 25th amongst all Division I programs.

She achieved the rare triple-double on October 3 when she registered 12 kills, 18 digs and 41 assists at UC Santa Barbara. Woolever was later named WCC Player of the Week on November 5 after distributing a career-high 63 assists in a four-set victory over Loyola Marymount.

The Pepperdine pair was two of 14 total honorees on the region’s first team. USC and Oregon led with three selections apiece, followed by Stanford and BYU with two. UCLA and Washington rounded out the Pacific Region first team with one honoree each.

As all-region honorees, both Orozco and Woolever are eligible for AVCA All-America team distinction which will be announced December 12.

The Waves made their 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season and finished year with a 20-12 record.
