Larsen, Messing Earn Honorable Mention on West Coast Conference All-Academic Team

MALIBU, Calif. – Kelley Larsen and Katie Messing of the Pepperdine women’s volleyball team earned an honorable mention on the 2012 West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league office announced today.
To be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing, maintain 3.20 or better cumulative grade point average and also be a significant contributor to her team. The all-academic squad is selected by the WCC.
Larsen (Jamul, Calif./Christian HS) is a sports medicine major with a 3.31 GPA. On the court, Larsen has appeared in all 30 matches of the 2012 season with 21 starts. The junior averages 1.08 kills/set and 1.93 digs/set with two kills-digs doubles doubles to her name this year. Last week, Larsen set a new season high with 13 kills against BYU.
Earlier this season, while at Saint Mary’s, Larsen played the role of libero for the Waves and collected a career-high 25 digs.
Messing (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) is averaging 2.40 kills/set this year as a sophomore and has contributed in 28 matches. She is studying public relations and currently boasts a GPA of 3.36.
Although Messing is primarily a front-row only player, she got the opportunity to show off her defensive chops against Arizona and registered a career-best 15 digs. She also pounded home 13 kills in the match for her first ever double double.
The Waves wrap up the regular season tomorrow, Nov. 20, with a 4 p.m. match against North Dakota State.
The 2012 NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. on ESPNU. Pepperdine is currently receiving votes in the AVCA rankings and has an RPI of 37.
