Rivalry Week Starts Tuesday for Women's Volleyball
Nov. 7, 2005
MALIBU, Calif. - After claiming a pair a victories in a pivotal weekend series against Saint Mary's and San Francisco last weekend, Pepperdine can ill afford to have a let down this week as it takes on two of its Los Angeles-based rivals in UCLA and Loyola Marymount.
First up for the Waves (14-10, 7-4 West Coast Conference) is UCLA. Pepperdine upended the then No. 12-Bruins last year at Pauley Pavilion so UCLA should be more than fired up for the chance at payback Tuesday night on the Waves' turf. Friday night, Pepperdine will head south to the Gersten Pavilion on LMU's campus for a 7 p.m. (PDT) tilt which could go a long way in sorting out the four-team logjam at the 2-4 spots in the conference race.
The Waves continue to be led by the play of their middle blockers in Sophia Milo and Lecca Roberts who are hitting .350 and .307, respectively, this season. Senior Katy Daly stepped up with a pair of solid efforts last weekend resulting in the first WCC Player of the Week honor of her career. For the year, Daly is averaging 3.03 kills and 2.57 digs per game this season.
Pepperdine has four matches remaining to improve its standing with the NCAA selection committee for an at-large berth into the tournament field of 64 later this month. Should the Waves win out in league play, they would finish no worse than second in the conference.
First serve on Tuesday is slated for 7 p.m. and tickets may be purchased by calling (310) WAVE TIX.
