Kellie Woolever Named West Coast Conference Player of the Week
Nov. 5, 2012
MALIBU, Calif. – Junior setter Kellie Woolever of Pepperdine women’s volleyball team was awarded West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors after leading the Waves up against a pair of national ranked opponents.
Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) directed Pepperdine’s offense last week with an impressive 12.44 assists/set versus then-#25 Saint Mary’s and then-#18 San Diego.
She opened with a record-setting performance against the Gaels. The 2011 AVCA All-American honorable mention distributed a career-high 63 assists in the four-set victory. Her previous career best was set at 58 in a five-set win against Loyola Marymount on Oct. 25.
On defense, Woolever picked up a team-best 29 total digs in the two matches for a 3.22 average.
On the season, Woolever averages 11.24 assists/set which ranks second in the league and 25th amongst all setters in the NCAA Division I.
Her career assist tally of 3,493 sits in sixth place all-time in the Waves’ record book. With 106 more helpers, Woolever will move up into fifth place. By conservative estimates, she is on pace to rank second all-time at Pepperdine, but first place is well within reach by the end of the 2013 season.
This is the first time in 2012 Woolever has been dubbed WCC Player of the Week and second overall in her career.
Pepperdine boasts a tied-for-league-best three player of the week selections this season. Jazmine Orozco (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS/Illinois) has twice picked up the award. The Toreros also have been honored with three player of the week selections, followed by BYU with two.
The Waves gear up for their final regular-season road trip, with matches at LMU on Nov. 8 and San Francisco on Nov. 10.
