Fiers Named to Academic All-District Team
MALIBU, Calif. - Senior setter Kiah Fiers of the Pepperdine women's volleyball team has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII second team, the organization announced today.
Fiers (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Peninsula HS), a psychology major, currently ranks second in the West Coast Conference and 34th in the nation with 10.90 assists per set. She is #3 all-time at Pepperdine with 4,152 career assists.
Academically, Fiers is a two-time WCC All-Academic selection and a three-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree.
To be nominated for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. Student-athletes named to an all-district first team have their names forwarded onto the ballot for Academic All-American honors.
Fiers was the only West Coast Conference volleyball player named to either the first, second or third teams.
Pepperdine (12-10, 5-4 WCC) next plays its final two home matches against Portland (tonight at 7 p.m.) and Gonzaga (Saturday, Nov. 7, 1 p.m.). Fiers and fellow senior Rachel Grochmal (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) will be honored as part of Senior Day festivities prior to the Gonzaga match. Three road matches remain on the 2009 schedule.
Fiers is the second Pepperdine student-athlete to earn CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors this fall, as Kelly Reilly also made the second team in women's soccer.
