Pepperdine Defeats Portland In Four Games On Saturday For Second Straight Win
Oct. 17, 2004
Senior outside hitter Kristen Shultz registered her sixth double-double of the season and junior outside hitter Katy Daly totaled a season-high 21 kills to lead the Pepperdine women's volleyball team to a four-game victory over visiting Portland Saturday night at Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Waves won by scores of 26-30, 30-19, 30-25, 30-24 to improve to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in West Coast Conference (WCC). The loss dropped Portland to 9-9 on the season and kept the Pilots winless in conference play as they fell to 0-6.
Pepperdine produced another balanced attack as four players finished with double-digit kills totals. Joining Shulz, who totaled 17 kills and added 11 digs, and Daly with double-digit kills were sophomore middle blocker Sophia Milo and freshman middle blocker Lecca Roberts with 15 and 11 respectively.
The Waves also blocked well as the combination of Milo and Roberts helped Pepperdine total 15 team blocks while Portland had just four. Roberts had three block solos and four block assists while Milo registered two block solos and three block assists.
Sara Vercruyssen led Portland with a double-double as she recorded 16 kills and 19 digs.
Pepperdine ventures back out on the road next week when it plays nationally-ranked San Diego and Santa Clara on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
