Pepperdine Opens WCC Play This Weekend

The Pepperdine women's volleyball team is set to open West Coast Conference (WCC) play this weekend when it hosts San Diego on Friday and Santa Clara on Sunday at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif.

Pepperdine (7-5) begins conference play with a hot hand having won its last four matches. Freshman Julie Rubenstein (Camarillo, Calif.) is leading the Waves' offense this season, averaging 4.41 kills per game. Rubenstein has been named to the all-tournament team in all three tournaments Pepperdine has competed in this season and was most recently names WCC Player of the Week for her MVP efforts at the Sheraton Invitational in Philadelphia, Penn., last weekend.

Sophomore Lecca Roberts (Kula, Hawaii) is second on the team in kills at 3.26 and is hitting at a team-high .344 clip. Roberts, who ranks second on the team in blocks per game (1.13), was also named to the all-tournament team a week ago. Junior Sophia Milo (Portland, Ore.) leads the Waves in blocks per game with 1.54 and currently ranks eighth in career block assists (255) and ninth in total career blocks (306).

Pepperdine's all-time record in WCC matches is 230-46, by far the best record of the eight teams that make up the league. When at Firestone Fieldhouse, the Waves are an impressive 130-14. Friday's match is slated for a 7 p.m. (PT), while Sunday's contest is set for a 3 p.m. first serve and will be televised Live as part of College Sports Television's (CSTV) Sunday Night Spikes Game of the Week.
