Domme, Honeycutt, Hettick to Join Waves Next Fall
April 22, 2013
MALIBU, Calif. – Nina Matthies, head coach of both the indoor and sand volleyball teams at Pepperdine, announced today that Monique Domme, Brooke Honeycutt and Kendahl Hettick will be donning the blue and orange next fall. Domme and Honeycutt signed as indoor players, but will likely compete with the sand team as well. Hettick joins the Waves as a sand player.
“We have a lot of fantastic kids coming to Pepperdine in 2013-14,” boasted Matthies of her newcomers. “They are an enthusiastic, vocal, athletic group. That’s really exciting as a coach.
Honeycutt (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) is a 6-foot-3 middle blocker who will add depth to the position with the departure of four-year starter Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS).
Pepperdine will be deep at the setting position next fall with Domme (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS) joining the team. 2012 AVCA All-American third team selection Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) will return for her senior season in 2013, while Chandler (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) comes to Malibu with experience as a setter and defensive specialist.
Hettick etches her name onto an elite list of sand-only players. She and Knudson (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) will make up the Waves’ freshmen class in 2014.
“This group of girls didn’t just want to play volleyball in college. They wanted to play volleyball at Pepperdine,” continued Matthies. “I feel honored that they’ve all decided to become Waves.”
The Waves have been phenomenally successful both in the gym and on the sand. The 2012 indoor squad advanced to the NCAA Championship for the 22nd time in program history. The Pepperdine sand volleyball team won the 2012 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship and enters the 2013 championships on May 3-5 ranked #1.
