MALIBU, Calif. – Led by Kim Hill’s 18 kills, the #14 Pepperdine women’s volleyball team cruised to a three-set victory over Santa Clara on Thursday evening inside Firestone Fieldhouse. The Waves now boast a 12-match win streak – the best since the 2008 campaign when they opened the season with 13 consecutive wins.

Pepperdine, now 17-5 overall and a perfect 12-0 in West Coast Conference play, won by set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-14.

Hill (Portland, Ore./Portland Christian HS), the reigning WCC Player of the Month, was errorless on the attack and earned her 18 kills on 28 attacks for a final hitting percentage of .643.

As a team, the Waves hit a season-best .422 clip and limited the Broncos (9-13, 4-7 WCC) to a .142 hitting percentage. Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) quarterbacked the offense with 42 assists, while picking up nine digs. The sophomore setter helped out Pepperdine’s hitting percentage by delivering five kills earned on a .833 success rate.

On defense, Hill and Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS) both notched six blocks apiece. Stevi Robinson (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) paced the team with 15 digs. The senior libero has now reached double digit figures in digs in 11 of the last 12 contests.

Pepperdine controlled the rhythm of the match from the very first point, and built a 12-7 lead. Samantha Cash (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) delivered one of her seven kills to give the Waves the side out and rotate Robinson into the serving position. Her serving proved too much for Santa Clara to handle, and the visitors were forced to take a timeout after Robinson recorded an ace – the 100th of her career.

The Waves continued to roll coming out of the break and claimed the first stanza 25-15 after Woolever added an ace of her own.

Hill was in a league of her own in the second set, and recorded eight kills and three blocks to lead Pepperdine.

Although the Broncos claimed an early advantage, the Waves never let the set get away from them and finally took over the lead 13-12 after tandem block courtesy of Hill and Cash. Although SCU kept the score close, Pepperdine never relinquished the lead and claimed the win 25-21 to take a two-set lead into the intermission.

After Santa Clara opened set three with a 6-1 run, the Waves responded with a 10-1 run thanks in part to three blocks from the joint effort of Hill and Adelhelm.  Hill added an additional seven kills to her tally, and Pepperdine out-killed the Broncos 19-7 in the final stanza. Lilla Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly) pounded down the final kill – her 11th of the match – to clinch the 25-14 win and secure the Waves’ fourth-consecutive 3-0 triumph.

Katherine Douglas paced Santa Clara with eight kills, while Taylor Milton and Bridget O’Hara both picked up 10 digs.

Pepperdine’s next match is on Thursday, Nov. 10, when they host Loyola Marymount.
