SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's volleyball team kept its West Coast Conference record untarnished today, after defeating Santa Clara 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-23, 25-12) on the road.  The Waves improve to 10-5 (2-0 WCC) and extend their winning streak to a season-best four matches, while the Broncos fall to 9-7 (0-2 WCC).

Four Waves reached double-digit kill totals to give Pepperdine the offensive advantage with Kim Hill (Portland, Ore./Portland Christian) leading the assault with 15 kills.  Emily Cook (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) helped the Pepperdine cause with 14, and Lilla Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly HS) pegged down 10 put aways.  Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) was unstoppable at the net, tallying 11 kills on a match-high .562 (11-2-16) attack percentage.

Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) dished out 46 assists to lead the floor.  Coupled with her 12 digs, the freshman setter captured her third double-double of the season.

Pepperdine commanded the first set, committing just two attack errors to inflate its attack percentage to .571.  A 9-4 opening run, fueled by three-straight kills courtesy of Cook forced the Broncos to spend a timeout.  The pause in the action did not affect the Waves, however, as they continued to widen their lead.  Frederick put down her fourth kill of the match to put the first game away 25-13.

The momentum took a turn in Santa Clara's favor during the second frame, as Pepperdine was unable to string together its offense.  After falling behind 11-7, the Waves were able to get back in the match with a 6-3 run, but the Broncos responded with five-straight points of their own.  The lead was too much for Pepperdine to overcome, and went into the break with the match tied at one.

The Broncos, with the help of Tanya Schmidt's five kills, continued to dominate in the third frame, and led by as much as seven points.  Santa Clara owned the lead the entire set, and threatened to take a 2-1 match lead after a kill from Lexi Williamson gave the Broncos a 23-19 advantage.  With true grit and determination, the Waves scored five points to take the lead for the first time in the game in addition to setting up set point.  Hill, who had served for all five points, recorded a kill to give the Waves the 25-23 win.

The momentum shifted once again, this time to the Waves' advantage.  Hill out-killed Santa Clara in the fourth set all by herself, recording eight kills compared to the Broncos' seven.  Collectively the Waves collected 15 kills on a .353 clip to roll to a swift 25-12 win.

In addition to leading the team in kill totals, Kill served up a career-high five aces.  Stevi Robinson (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) led the defense with 13 digs, while Brittney Clark (San Jose, Calif./Presentation HS) had a match-high five blocks.

Pepperdine returns to the Firestone Fieldhouse for the first time in a month on Wed., Oct. 6 for its final nonconference match-up against UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m.  The Waves continue WCC action on Sat., Oct. 9 when they hit the road to face Loyola Marymount.
