Lise Sissler Clinches Doubles Championship At SDSU Fall Classic

Oct. 7, 2003

SAN DIEGO - Despite playing together for this first time this weekend, Pepperdine University freshman Lise Sissler and San Diego State freshman Alesya Vidov clinched the Flight B doubles championship with an 8-4 victory over Paulina Akritas and Leila Cehajic of Illinois on Saturday at the San Diego State University Fall Classic.

Sissler was the only Pepperdine women's tennis participant in the SDSU tournament.

"Anytime you pair up with someone you don't know and win a tournament, it makes a huge statement," said Nina Eriksson, Waves' assistant coach. "Illinois might have had better skills as a doubles team, but Lise and Alesya did the little and simple things to win. Both girls represented their schools well this weekend."

In addition to the doubles title, Sissler also played in the Flight C singles championship and took home a runner-up finish after falling to Brianna Knue of Illinois.

Next up for the Waves is the Riviera All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades this weekend.
