ATHENS, Georgia -- Pepperdine's No. 1 singles star and the No. 27th-ranked women's tennis player in the country, Natalie Braverman, has a tough task on her hands today in the opening round of the 2004 Women's NCAA Singles Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. Braverman must face Stanford's No. 1 player and the fourth-seeded individual in the tournament, Amber Lui, at 11:30 a.m.
Lui guided the Stanford Cardinal to its 13th national team championship at the 2004 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships on Sunday. The Cardinal defeated the UCLA Bruins 4-1 in what was the first all-conference team final matchup since 1991 when the same two teams met in an all Pac-10 final. The Waves fell to the Bruins 4-2 on May 15 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Today will mark the first meeting between Lui (19-4) and Braverman (24-8) this season.
