MALIBU, Calif.Khunpak Issara and Lorraine Guillermo of the Pepperdine women’s tennis team were awarded West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Month honors after going a perfect 7-0 in March. The pair, currently ranked #11 by the ITA, has won the award four of the five times it has been presented in 2012-13, and seven times overall.

Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) and Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) have established themselves as one of the top doubles pairs not only in the WCC but in the whole of the NCAA. The duo is currently ranked #11 in the country, and went a perfect 7-0 during the month of March. The pair is on an active 11-match win streak dating back to mid-February.

Thanks in part to the efforts of Issara and Guillermo, the Waves chalked wins over Michigan State, Marshall, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Santa Clara in March. Pepperdine won the back draw at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic with the victories against the Spartans and Thundering Herd and head into this week on a five-match dual win streak.

Issara and Guillermo are 13-3 in duals this season, and with a career win tally (dual play only) of 33, the pair ranks third all-time in the Pepperdine program record book. With at least five duals left in the season the pair has the potential to take over second place, which is currently held by Janna Kovacevich and Anna Brunstrom with 37 wins between the 1988 and 1989 seasons. Bianca Dulgheru and Eva Dickes rank No. 1 in the program annuls for racking up 47 wins from 2005-07.

The women’s tennis team, the lone program in the WCC undefeated in conference action, plays in key match ups this week at #42 Saint Mary’s (April 11) and #53 San Diego. The Gaels are 5-1 in league play after suffering an upset 4-3 loss to Santa Clara last week. The Toreros are 4-2 in the WCC with losses to the Broncos and SMC, but boast the league’s top-ranked singles player in #20 Jenny Jullien.
