Waves Top Virginia Commonwealth, 4-3


LAS VEGAS – The #25 Pepperdine women’s tennis team ran its winning streak to seven matches with a 4-3 win over #38 Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas.


The Waves moved to 12-3 with the victory while the Rams fell to 14-3. The Waves have not lost since Feb. 25 against Baylor, and won their third consecutive 4-3 decision.


The Waves won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches to remain perfect this year in capturing the point. The ninth-ranked duo of Sylvia Kosakowski (Downey, Calif./Warren HS) and Bianca Dulgheru (Bucharest, Romania/Theoretical Jean Monnet HS) improved to 15-0 in dual matches with an 8-3 win, and Anamika Bhargava (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) and Jill Braverman (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar HS) posted an 8-4 win in the No. 2 position.


In singles, the Waves received victories from Bhargava, Anete Bandere (Tukums, Latvia/ Tukuma Raina Gimnazija), and Alex Liles (Largo, Fla./Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) to edge the Rams. Bhargava posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory, Bandere notched a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win, and Liles won 6-4, 6-1.


Up next, the Waves host Long Beach State on Friday, Mar. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
