Feb. 10, 2005
Malibu, Calif. - The 37th-ranked Pepperdine Waves women's tennis team looks to snap its two match losing streak when it welcomes Long Beach State and San Diego to the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday.
Pepperdine (2-2) takes on the 59th-ranked 49ers at 11:00 a.m. Saturday and squares off against No. 50 USD at noon on Sunday.
The 49ers come to Malibu with a 2-1 record after their match scheduled for Thursday at San Diego State was rained out. They are led by No. 113 Nicole Bouffler. The last time Pepperdine faced Long Beach the Waves took the 6-1 decision as Pepperdine's Natalie Braverman beat Bouffler in three sets.
Sunday will give the Waves their first test against West Coast Conference competition when they face the Toreros. Pepperdine is the highest ranked WCC team at 37, trailed by USD at 50 and No. 73 Santa Clara. San Diego is 1-1 this season with a win over Loyola Marymount and a 7-0 loss to No. 41 Arizona. The USD/Pepperdine match will square off the top two WCC players in No. 52 Braverman and No. 48 Emma Murphy. Murphy has never beaten Braverman in any of their four match-ups. Their last meeting came in the finals of last year's WCC Championship when Braverman won 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.
Pepperdine is looking to get back in the win column after hard losses to No. 11 UCLA and No. 12 USC.
