No. 25 Women's Tennis to Host No. 45 Fresno State and No. 12 UCLA This Weekend

Malibu, Calif. - After winning four consecutive matches, the nationally-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team has moved from a No. 28 position to a No. 25 national ranking. The Waves (4-0) look to keep the momentum going this weekend as they host No. 45 Fresno State on Friday, February 10 and No. 15 UCLA on Saturday, February 11. Friday's match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., while Saturday's match is slated for 11 a.m. at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
Fresno State is 1-1 on the season. The Bulldogs lost to No. 1 Stanford 5-2 in its season opener, but bounced back sweeping UC Santa Barbara 7-0. Leading the Bulldogs is the No. 4 nationally-ranked doubles team of seniors Katharina Winterhalter and Lucia Sainz. The duo reached the final match at the ITA All-American Doubles Championships, but was defeated by the No. 1 doubles team of twins Catrina and Christian Thompson of Notre Dame.
UCLA is 3-0 on the season posting wins over LMU, UC Santa Barbara and Rice. The Bruins will face UC Irvine on Thursday before coming to Malibu to take on the Waves. Junior Alex McGoodwin leads UCLA as she is ranked No. 77 in singles. She is followed by senior Laura Gordon, who is ranked 94th and freshman Ashley Joelson, ranked at 99.
Last season, the Waves defeated Fresno State 6-1 on Bulldog territory and lead the series 8-2. Pepperdine has struggled against the Bruins, who lead the series 35-12 and in 2005, the Waves lost twice to UCLA.
