Women Knock-Off Long Beach State, 6-1

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's tennis team wrapped up its three match homestand with a hard-earned 6-1 victory over Long Beach State Saturday afternoon at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves finished the day 3-0 in doubles play and 5-1 in singles to improve their record to 3-0 overall.
In singles action, sophomore Natalie Braverman defeated Nicole Bouffler 7-5, 6-7 (6) 10-2 in a hard fought battle. Senior Charlotte Vernaz also won her match, toppling Lindsey Marvel (6-4, 6-3), and teammate Merve Asmilgil wasted no time finishing off Sandra Rocha 6-1, 6-1. Karin Schlapbach, playing at the No. 4 singles spot, earned a victory after sliding past Kelly Chan 6-3, 6-3. The final singles point was recorded by Lise Sissler who battled for a 3-6, 7-6 (7), 10-2 win over Claudia Arguemdo. Pepperdine's Eva Dickes fell to Alanah Carroll, 7-5, 7-6 (3) in the lone loss for the Waves.
On the doubles side, the Pepperdine women were successful on Homecoming day with three 8-4 victories. The No. 1 tandem with Braverman/Asimgil upended Bouffler/Rocha, the Waves' team with Schlapbach/Dickes routed Marvel/Chan, and the No. 3 pair combined of Vernaz/Sissler took care of the 49ers' Carroll/Tabatruong.
The Waves will pack their bags and head to San Diego State on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m.
