Pepperdine Women Perfect Against UCSB

MALIBU, Calif. - The 42nd-ranked Pepperdine University women's tennis team opened Homecoming weekend on a positive note after sweeping the visiting Santa Barbara Gauchos 7-0 at Ralph-Straus Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Waves improve to 2-0 overall while the 75th-ranked Gauchos fall to 0-1.
In doubles action, Pepperdine's Natalie Braverman and Merve Asimgil defeated Jen Kuhle and Marielle Gruenig, 8-2, at the No. 1 spot. In a quick 8-1 decision, the No. 2 duo comprised of Karin Schlapbach and Eva Dickes downed Andrea Pintar and Leslie Damion. Charlotte Vernaz and Lise Sissler, who beat Amy Vyhnis and Chelsea Dillon, 8-3, earned the final doubles victory for the Waves.
Pepperdine has yet to drop a dual-match in singles this year, running its record to a perfect 12-0 by winning all six matches on Friday. Sophomore Braverman led the way by winning her second match in a row with a 3-6, 6-2, (10-4) decision over Gruening at No. 1 singles.
The remaining five Waves in the middle of the lineup won in straight sets, beginning with Vernaz who downed Pintar, 6-3, 6-1. Asimgil defeated Damion (6-3, 6-1), Schlapbach won with ease against Kuhle (6-1, 6-0), and Dickes raced away from Vyhnis (6-3, 6-0).
Freshman Lise Sissler completed the sweep for the Waves with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kristen Wilson at the No. 6 position.
Pepperdine is back in action tomorrow, Jan. 24, against Long Beach State at 11:00 a.m.
