Guillermo Ends Run at Riviera/ITA All-American Championship
Oct. 4, 2013
SAN DIEGO – After opening the 2013-14 campaign with nine-straight victories, Lorraine Guillermo of the Pepperdine women’s tennis team finally suffered a setback in the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship. The junior made her exit from the national tournament after falling in the consolation draw today.
Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) opened the season in a big way, winning the singles title at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational back in September. She tallied six victories in three days to lay claim to the championship.
The junior was extended an invitation to the qualifying draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship. The wins kept pouring in as Guillermo won three times to advance to the main draw.
Yesterday, the Wave finally suffered a loss, falling to #5 ranked Anett Schutting of Cal in three sets.
Although Guillermo opened today’s consolation match with a 6-3 set win against Duke’s Hanna Mar, the Blue Devil took sets two and three 6-1, 6-4 to move on to the next round.
Next up, the women’s tennis team heads to San Diego for the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championship on Oct. 17-21.
