SAN DIEGO – Lorraine Guillermo won the singles red bracket at the San Diego State Fall Classic on Sunday, in the Pepperdine women’s tennis team’s first tournament of the 2012-13 season. Guillermo went a perfect 3-0 to take the title.
Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) made her season debut on Friday with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over San Diego’s Laura Claus. The following day the sophomore downed Kseniya Barbabush of North Texas in straight sets.
In Sunday’s final, Guillermo suffered a 6-3 setback to the Torero’s Stephanie Hoffpauir, but rebounded and won frames two and three, 6-2, 6-1.
This was the first time Guillermo has won a singles bracket in fall tournament action.
Moore, competing in the gold bracket, opened the tournament with a three-set triumph against Ros-Polly Nguyen of New Mexico State. Although the junior lost in the second round, she got back on track today with a 6-1, 6-3 win over North Texas’ Dane Joubert.

In doubles, Moore and Guillermo teamed up to beat Annemieke Witte and Mia Brandt of New Mexico State, 8-4.
Guillermo looks to continue her early success on Thursday, Oct. 4, when she competes in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships doubles main draw. Issara, as well as Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hildalgo) battle in singles qualifying starting tomorrow, Oct. 1 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
