Women's Tennis Shuts Out San Diego, 5-0

MALIBU, Calif. – The #40 Pepperdine women’s tennis team improved to a perfect 5-0 at home after today’s 5-0 shut-out victory over San Diego. The Waves have now won five in a row as the team improves to 9-4 overall and a perfect 3-0 in West Coast Conference action.
Pepperdine grabbed the early advantage in doubles to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) and Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) picked up their second-straight win at No. 2 together, downing Mikayla Morkel-Brink and Janine Koleta by an 8-2 tally.
Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) successfully preserved their perfect dual season record and beat Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic 8-3.
Although Yuki Chiang (Ojai, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) and Pattaraporn Salirathavibhaga (Bangkok, Thailand/International School Bangkok) fell behind a break at No. 3, the duo battled to get back on serve by the time action was suspended.
Pepperdine quickly went ahead 2-0 behind an efficient 6-2, 6-1 win by Guillermo. The Waves’ ace is now an impressive 10-3 in dual play this season.
Runglerdkriangkrai finished next, handing Koleta a 6-3, 6-4 loss.
Capannolo put Pepperdine out of reach, with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Morkel-Bring.
Danielle Feneridis (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls HS) finished just moments later, extending the Waves’ lead to 5-0 with a straight-set win at No. 6.
The remaining matches were not played out with the dual clinched.
Pepperdine resumes action tomorrow with a show down against #51 BYU. The Cougars and Waves both enter the contest tied for first place in the WCC standings with perfect records.
