Waves Open WCC Play with 4-2 Win vs. USF

SAN FRANCISCO – The #36 Pepperdine women’s tennis team opened West Coast Conference action with a 4-2 win over San Francisco today at the Olympic Club. The Waves have now won three in a row as they improve to 7-4 on the season.
Pepperdine began the day in doubles and won two of the three matches to take the point.
Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) and Danielle Feneridis (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls HS) teamed up at No. 3 to defeat Milica Hadzi-Tanovic and Brooke Irish by an 8-4 tally.
At No. 1, Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) posted an 8-4 win vs. Thyra Taune and Sofia Holmberg to improve to 3-0 in dual play and 5-1 on the year.
Guillermo gave Pepperdine the 2-0 lead after shutting out Andrea Ka 6-0, 6-0. It was the juniors’ second shutout of the season.
Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) won by a 6-2, 6-3 score going up against Sofia Holmberg to tally the Waves’ third point of the day.
Runglerdkriangkrai rallied for a 6-2 win in the third set vs. Hadzi-Tanovic to put Pepperdine out of reach.
Matea Cutura (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Birotehnika/DePaul) and Capannolo’s singles matches, both in their third sets, were not completed.
The Waves continue WCC play tomorrow with a visit to Santa Clara. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
