Women's Tennis Wins Back Draw at Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's tennis team won its second-straight dual, and in doing so won the back draw at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. The Waves swept the doubles point before clinching the victory in singles. Pepperdine opened the day in doubles and secured the point with wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the lineup. Top pair Khunpak Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) and Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS), as well as Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) and Michaela Capannolo (Hawthorn, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) at No. 2, both won by scores of 8-3. Megan Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Tara Panu (Los Altos Hill, Calif./The Harker School) were leading 7-5 at No. 3 when play was suspended. The Waves' No. 1-3 singles players all won in straight sets. Guillermo downed Dominika Zaprazna 6-3, 6-4, while Issara won her sixth-straight with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Dana Oppinger. Granillo defeated Maria Voscekova 6-3, 6-1 from the No. 3 spot in the lineup. Capannolo was tied one set apiece against Ellie Ball, while Moore was up 6-1, 5-1 vs. Kai Broomfield when the dual was decided. The Waves are back in action this Wednesday, March 20, with a road match at San Diego State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tennis Match Results
