LONG BEACH STATE – Facing a Long Beach State team that had not lost at home since 2012, the #41 Pepperdine women’s tennis team downed the 49ers on the road today 6-1. The Waves improve to 26-1 all-time against Long Beach State.
Prior to today’s loss, the #51-ranked 49ers had won 19 consecutive home matches.
The Waves took the early momentum, winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Reigning West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) logged an 8-4 decision against Ebba Unden and Maeva Razakasoa.
Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) and Matea Cutura (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Birotehnika/DePaul) extended their win streak to eight in a row with an 8-4 triumph over Karolina Rozenberg and Julia Gerard.
Pepperdine continued the winning ways in singles, claiming five of the six matches.

Yuki Chiang (Ojai, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) found herself in an evenly matched battle against Haley Thompson that saw both sets go to a tiebreaker, but ultimately Chiang still walked away with the straight-set victory.
Cutura and Granillo both won in three sets. Cutura’s opponent, Razakasoa, was a perfect 11-0 in singles prior to today’s dual.
