Women's Tennis Stumbles at TCU
Feb. 16, 2013 FORT WORTH, Texas – Playing on the indoor courts of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, the #46 Pepperdine women’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to #34 TCU. The Horned Frogs got the upper hand in doubles, winning two of the three matches to claim the point. Play between the two squads was fiercely competitive, as a tiebreaker was needed in all three matches to determine the winner. Although Pepperdine lost the doubles point, Megan Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Tara Panu (Los Altos Hills, Calif./The Harker School) earned their first win of the season as a pair, downing Gabi Barbosa and Simona Parajova 8-7. The momentum carried over for TCU in singles, and the Horned Frogs took a 3-0 lead after straight-set wins on courts one and two. Although Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) won the first set 6-3, #115 Simona Parajova came back 6-3, 6-2 in the subsequent frames to put point No. 4 on the board for TCU. Moore suffered a heartbreaking 7-6, 7-6 loss to Federica Denti before Michaela Capannolo (Hawthorn, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) put the Waves on the board with her first collegiate victory. After falling in the first set to Millie Nichols, the freshman stormed back 6-2, 6-3. Kelsey Sundaram won the final match of the day from the No. 6 spot in the lineup. The Waves conclude its tour of Texas tomorrow, Feb. 17, with a stop in Waco to play #18 Baylor. First serve is schedule for 11 a.m. (PT) with both live scores updates and a live blog available.
