Former All-American Scott Doerner was an assistant coach with the Pepperdine women's tennis program for six seasons (2007-08 to 2012-13).

A native of Melbourne, Australia, Doerner was working as the Pepperdine men's volunteer assistant coach prior to being named the women's assistant. He took over assistant coach responsibilities in time for the Waves' 2008 spring dual-match season.

In Doerner's time on the coaching staff, 12 Waves earned All-West Coast Conference honors in singles 25 times. In doubles, eight different pairs were awarded all-conference recognition on 10 occasions. Notably, Anamika Bhargava earned first-time status in both singles and doubles all four seasons (2008-11), becoming the first Pepperdine player and just the second in WCC history to achieve the feat.

Doerner was an integral part in the success of Lorraine Guillermo and Khunpak Issara. The doubles duo reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Doubles Championship and was awarded ITA All-American status. The pair went on to win the back draw at the 2012 Riviera/ITA All-American Championship and subsequently reached the semifinal of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship. In 2013, Doerner was voted the ITA Southwest Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.

Pepperdine won four West Coast Conference tournament titles, advanced to the NCAA Tournament six times and posted a 88-60 (.595) record in his six seasons.

Doerner is no stranger to the Waves' tennis tradition, as he was a member of the Pepperdine men's tennis team from 2003-06 and was a senior and a key member of the squad that captured the 2006 NCAA championship.

Doerner was a standout on the court, as he was named an All-American in singles in 2006 and twice in doubles (2005 and 2006). He was also the WCC's Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. He was ranked as high as #4 in the country in singles his senior year, and was #1 at one point in doubles with teammate Andre Begemann. He and Begemann finished #2 after earning a runner-up finish at the NCAA Tournament and posting a 33-6 record.

In 2011, Doerner and his 2006 championship teammates were inducted into the Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame.

After completing his career with the Waves, Doerner played on the professional circuit for a year.

He graduated from Pepperdine in 2006 with a degree in international management. Doerner resides in Santa Monica.
