LONG BEACH, Calif. Â The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team finished the first day in eighth place at the UC Irvine/Nike Cup at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. on Thursday.
The Waves finished the first day with 99 points, as UCLA is leading the pack with 465 points.
Pepperdine’s 400-yard medley relay team of Ali McLeod (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park HS), Dani Kimmel (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake HS), Franny Cyphers (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary’s Academy) and Haley Wilson (Carpenteria, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) swam a 3:54.34 to place eighth, which was good for the 3rd fastest time in school history. The Waves placed ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Kayleen Hicks (Chico, Calif./Chico HS), WIilson, Kimmel and McLeod finished in a time of 1:37.88, their season best and only 1.36 second off the school record. McLeod swam a 2:07.50 in the 200-yard I.M. to set a new season best, while three other Waves recorded personal bests, as Brianna Blanchard (Agoura, Calif./La Reina HS) swam a 5:12.04 in the 500-yard freestyle, Ali Chester (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS), swam a 2:15.45 in the 200-yard I.M., and Cyphers swam a 2:13.25 in the 200-yard I.M.
The UC Irvine/Nike Cup continues Friday with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
