IRVINE, Calif. Â Kayleen Hicks took over the second-fastest time in school history in the 200-yard breaststroke as the Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team placed fourth at the Lincoln Aquatics Shootout in Irvine, Calif. on Saturday afternoon.
The Waves came in fourth in the championship pool on Saturday after defeating San Diego on Friday to advance. The Waves lost their head-to-head matchups with UC Irvine (80-33), Hawaii (91-22) and UC Davis (74.5-38.5). The Lincoln Aquatics Shootout is scored as dual meets for each team competing against other schools in their pool.
Hicks’ (Chico, Calif./Chico HS) time of 2:23.14 in the 200-yard breaststroke puts her in second-place in Waves annals behind teammate Danielle Kimmel’s (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake HS) time of 2:22.29, set last season.
The Waves had five swimmers set personal bests on Saturday as Loriann Mark (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) and Brianna Blanchard (Agoura, Calif./La Reina HS) set personal-bests in the 1,000-yard freestyle as Mark swam a time of 10:42.83, while Blanchard finished at 10:51.97, Franny Cyphers (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary’s Academy) set a new personal best in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.73), Jessell Owens (Winnemucca, Nev./Lowry HS) set a new best in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.45) and Rachel Williams (Las Vegas, Nev./Advanced Technologies Academy) set a new best in the 100-yard freestyle (59.86).
Additionally, the Waves had three swimmers set personal bests on Friday as Cyphers set a new mark in the 400-yard I.M. (4:38.44), Blanchard set a new best in the 1650-yard freestyle (18:01.33), Michelle Fadley (Irvine, Calif./Northwood HS) set a new best in the 400-yard I.M. (4:44.03).
The Waves will conclude the fall season when they compete at the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, Calif. from Nov. 15-17.
