Former and Current Waves Gather for Swimming and Diving Alumni Meet
Oct. 18, 2010
MALIBU, Calif. – This past Saturday, the women’s swimming and diving team gathered along with over 20 alumni and their families for the annual Alumni Swimming and Diving Meet at the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The reunion brought together former Waves from all across the country for fun, fellowship and some healthy competition.
Dave Cotton, a member of the now-defunct men’s swimming and diving team in the 1970’s, proved he still has what it takes, scoring a 162.30 in the 3-meter event to win the competition. Michelle Barker (member of team from 2000-03) was the highest scoring female alumna with a score of 129.60.
Although this was alumni event, several family members of the Waves got a chance to participate in the fun as well. Nancy Brunet Janik, who competed with Cotton on the men’s squad when there was no women’s team, also took part in Saturday’s diving competition along with her daughter.
Loriann Mark (2006-08) teamed up with her mother, Charmaine, in several swimming events. Loriann still ranks in the top-five in the Pepperdine record books in the 500, 1,000, 1,650 freestyle, as well as the 400 freestyle relay.
Other alumni in attendance were Michelle Fadley (2005-08) and her children, Brianna Blanchard (2007-08), Jillian McGrath (2007), Alyson Price and her husband Kyle, Jill Keenan-Boline (1988-91), Stephanie Beiser Lapachet (1987-90), Christine Taylor, Anna Nitti (1987-90), Michelle Barker (2000-03), Devyn Schumacher (2004-07), Amy Gray and her family, Jaime Hopoi and her family, Jessica Unbewust (1999-02), Celia Haight Richard (1999-02), Monica Oleksyn Bunning (1998-01) and her family, Lauri Rockholm Conrad (1997-00) and her family, Adrienne Durand and her family, Haley Wilson (2006-08) and Lauren Meagher (2006-08).
Head Coach Nick Rodionoff and his staff would like to extend their thanks to everyone who could make the event a success.
