Pepperdine Sits in Fifth Place Following Day Three of PCSC Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. – It was another solid day for the Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team at the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference Championships. After three days of competition, the Waves sit in fifth place with 416.5 points.
Kayleen Hicks (Chico, Calif./Chico HS) opened her day with a 100 breaststroke time of 1:04.68 in the prelims. The time was the third-fastest performance logged in the event in Pepperdine history and just two-tenths shy of the seniors’ school record mark of 1:04.47. In the finals, Hicks placed fourth behind a time of 1:05.17.
Kelsey Maguire (New Rochelle, N.Y./Pelham Memorial HS) clocked a personal-best time of 1:25.10 to place 30th.
Sarah Burris (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox HS) lowered her PR in the 100 backstroke to 1:00.97 in the preliminary race, before lowering it again in the finals. Her time of 1:00.55 earned her 10th place.
Three additional Waves placed in the top-30 in the 100 backstroke, including Stephanie Ertl (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS), Robin-Lindsay White (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) and Jessell Owens (Winnemucca, Nev./Lowry HS). All three swimmers delivered season-best performances of 1:04.08, 1:06.10 and 1:07.33, respectively.
In the 100 butterfly, Shannon Adkins (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) followed up her time of 1:02.26 in the prelims with a personal-best performance of 1:01.18 to place 16th in the finals.
Owens clocked a season-best mark of 1:07.49.
The 400 medley relay squad comprised of Burris, Hicks, Adkins and Ertl placed sixth in the field to round out the day’s point scoring swims.
The PCSC Championships concludes tomorrow at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
