Pepperdine Swimming & Diving Through Day Three of PCSC Championship

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team sits in sixth place after the third day of the PCSC Championship. Freshman Jessica Mosbaugh earned all-conference honors in the 100 breaststroke after clocking the fourth-fastest time in program history.

Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Alamitos HS) earned the Waves’ highest finish in an individual swim event, placing third in the 100 breaststroke. After posting a 1:05.39 in the prelims, she bettered her time to 1:04.89 in the finals. She joins Kayleen Hicks and Dani Kimmel as the only other Waves to have ever logged a sub-1:05 time in the event.

The freshman has now delivered all-conference performances in four events during the championships including the 200 IM (4th), 200 medley relay (7th) and 400 medley relay (6th).

Erin Hayes (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch HS), Mae Corbin (El Paso, Texas/Loretto Academy) and Brooke Fugate (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) lowered their season-best times in the 100 breaststroke. Hayes placed 22nd with a time of 1:10.08, while Corbin and Fugate set new personal records with times of 1:13.62 and 1:16.86.

Elena Witham (Buena Vista, Colo./Houston County HS) advanced to the finals in the 400 IM to open Friday’s action, clocking a personal-record race of 4:57.06 in the prelims. Witham moved up four spots into 20th place in the finals after lowering her PR further to 4:54.08.


 

 

Paige Weslaski (Racine, Wis./Case HS/St. Bonaventure) placed 24th in the finals (5:10.01 – season best) followed by Andrea Kacynski’s (Superior, Colo./Monarch HS) 30th place time of 5:21.33 in the prelims, also a season best.

Three Pepperdine swimmers reached the finals of the 100 butterfly including Courtney VanWinkle, Nicolette Barreiro and Shannon Adkins (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS).  All three bettered their times in the scoring heat and moved up in the standings, led by Barreiro’s 12th-place time of 58.24. VanWinkle was right behind Barreiro with her first sub-59 second swim of the season. The freshman clocked a 58.76 for 13th place.

Adkins moved up from 20th to 19th in the finals behind a time of 1:00.06

In the 200 freestyle, Allison Naasz (Lodi, Calif./Tokay HS) delivered a time of 1:56.31 after a preliminary swim of 1:57.21. Her finals time was good enough for 14th place.

Sarah Burris (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox HS) finished in the top-10 in the 100 backstroke with a season-best mark of 1:00.03.

The Waves’ 400 medley relay team, comprised of Burris, Mosbaugh, Barreiro and Adkins, finished the day with a sixth-place showing (3:56.26)
