LA MIRADA, Calif. - Klaire Korver of the Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team highlighted day two of the PCSC Championship with a career-high second-place finish in the 1-meter springboard.  The Waves sit in fourth in the team standings with two days left of competition.

UC San Diego currently has a stronghold on first place with 644 points followed by Fresno Pacific with 345. Cal State East Bay holds a half a point edge on the Waves, who have collected a total of 332 points. Cal Baptist rounds out the top-five with a tally of 305.

Korver (Redwood City, Calif./Pinewood School) concluded her Pepperdine career on a high note, placing second in the 1-meter springboard with a score of 205.05. Her preliminary score of 209.25 will stand as her all-time best while in a Wave uniform.

This is the first time the senior has earned All-PCSC honors in the 1-meter, although she is a two-time all-conference performer in the 3-meter.  She has twice placed seventh in the 3-meter, while her best 1-meter finish at the conference meet prior to today was 10th.

Ellyn Strampel (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon HS) picked up her second all-conference nod of the meet, placing fourth in today's 1-meter competition behind a score of 195.05. Yesterday, the freshman scored a 208.40 in the 3-meter to place fourth.

Shannon Adkins (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) opened day two's swim events with the 500 freestyle. In the prelims, the senior clocked a season-best 5:11.32 to advance to the finals as the No. 12 seed. Courtney VanWinkle (Victor, N.Y./Victor Senior) also worked her way out of the preliminary round, placing 23rd with a time of 5:18.74.

Although Adkins did not move up in the standings during the final round, she did shave nearly two more seconds off her season-best time with a race of 5:09.44. That mark was less than seven tenths of a second shy of her personal record.

VanWinkle moved up into 19th place in the finals after logging a season-best time of 5:14.29.

Three Waves reached the finals of the 200 IM, including Jessica Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS), Sarah Burris (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox HS) and Allison Naasz (Lodi, Calif./Tokay HS). Mosbaugh placed 11th in the prelims with a season-best time of 2:09.74.

Both Burris and Naasz lowered their personal-best marks in the prelims, with top-25 times of 2:12.68 and 2:13.76, respectively.

The trio further improved upon their times in the finals, highlighted by Mosbaugh's fourth-place time of 2:07.49 - less than one tenth of a second out of third place.

Naasz clocked a 2:11.96 in the finals to place 18th, closely followed by Burris in 19th behind a time of 2:12.36.

Although four swimmers delivered season-best performances in the 50 free, no one eclipsed the top-24 to break into the finals. Nicolette Barreiro (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) paced Pepperdine with a 35th place time of 25.15, followed by Ally Bernard (Porterville, Calif./Monache HS/Cuesta College) in 36th with a 25.18.

Barreiro and Bernard did advance to a non-scoring final heat, and both improved with times of 25.12 and 25.17, respectively.

Elizabeth Pitts (Marietta, Ga./Marist School), Elena Witham (Buena Vista, Colo./Houston County HS), Stephanie Ertl (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) and Kelsey Maguire (New Rochelle, N.Y./Pelham Memorial HS) all clocked season-best times, including Witham with a personal-record mark of 26.38. Pitts registered a time of 25.77, followed by Ertl (26.44) and Maguire (30.39).

In the day's final event, the 200 freestyle relay, Bernard, VanWinkle, Barreiro and Burris delivered a sixth-place showing. Their time of 1:38.43 was the fastest by any Pepperdine team all season.
