LA MIRADA, Calif. – With four all-conference performances on the opening day of the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference Championship, the Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team sits in second place. Ellyn Strampel and Klaire Korver placed in the top-eight in the 3-meter springboard, while both relay squads finished in the top-eight of their respective races.

The Waves scored 157 points, closely followed by Fresno Pacific with 153. With 192 points, UC San Diego sits in first place after day one.

Two of the three divers earned All-PCSC accolades in the 3-meter, led by Strampel’s (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon HS) fourth-place finish. After posting a 202.55 in the prelims, the freshman bettered her score in the finals to a 208.40.

Rounding out the divers was Stephanie Ertl (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) who scored a 152.50 to finish in 11th.

The quartet comprised of Sarah Burris (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox HS), Jessica Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS), Nicolette Barreiro (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) and Courtney VanWinkle (Victor, N.Y./Victor Senior HS) battled in a closely contested 200 medley relay. Burris got the Waves started with a season-best 50 backstroke time of 28.42. Mosbaugh followed in the 50 breast and lowered her personal-best mark to 30.17. The season-best times continued to pour in, and Barreiro clocked a butterfly split of 26.89, while VanWinkle anchored the relay team with a personal-record 50 freestyle split of 24.40.

With a season-best overall time of 1:49.88, the Pepperdine group hit the wall in seventh place.
