MALIBU, Calif. - The undefeated and #1-ranked Pepperdine sand volleyball team continues the 2014 season with a road dual at #3 Long Beach State on Tuesday, March 18. The Waves then return to Zuma Beach to host Loyola Marymount on Thursday, March 20.

SCOUTING THE FIELD - Long Beach State is just 2-2 this season, with wins over LMU and Stanford and narrow 3-2 losses to both Hawaii and Florida State ... Chelsea Cabrajac and Bre Mackie are a perfect 4-0 from the No. 3 spot in the lineup ... Loyola Marymount is 1-4 in 2014, with its sole triumph coming against Stanford.
SERIES SCORECARD - Pepperdine is 8-1 all-time vs. Long Beach State and 1-0 against Loyola Marymount ... The 49ers are the only team to ever defeat the Waves in dual play.
LOOKING BACK - Pepperdine added three more dual victories over the weekend at the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge ... The Waves beat Cal State Bakersfield, #5 Hawaii and Grand Canyon all by a score of 5-0 ... Kellie Woolever and Kelley Larsen teamed up for the first time in 2014 to win the pairs championship ... Becca Strehlow and Lara Dykstra finished in third place, while four Wave duos reached the quarterfinals of the 24-team single elimination tournament.
LOOKING AHEAD - Pepperdine opens next week on the road with a dual at USC on Tuesday, March 25, before traveling to Atlanta to compete in the Sand in the City Tournament, hosted by Georgia State ... Other teams in attendance include the College of Charleston and Louisiana-Monroe.
ROSTER - Pepperdine boasts an experienced lineup made up of 10 student-athletes with at least one season of collegiate sand volleyball experience and four newcomers ... Five members of the 2014 squad were there in the beginning, when Pepperdine won the inaugural AVCA National Championship in 2012 ... Those student-athletes include Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS), Emily Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS), Kelley Larsen (Jamul, Calif./Christian HS), Caitlin Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) and Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS.).
#PURPOSE – Pepperdine Athletics officially launched its “Competing with Purpose” campaign during Waves Weekend. The campaign highlights the commitment to our core values that student-athletes, coaches and staff dedicate themselves to daily. Competing with Purpose provides the foundation on which champions are built.
JON DAZE - The Waves’ volunteer assistant coach was recently recognized as one of the AVCA’s Thirty Under 30 Award recipients ... He was the only volunteer assistant coach honored this year and just the second in the history of the award ... Established in 2009, the award honors emerging coaching talent younger than 30 years old at all levels of volleyball.
