#1 Waves Take Care of Business vs. Roadrunners

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The #1 Pepperdine sand volleyball rolled past CSU Bakersfield 5-0 to open action at the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge at the Olympic Training Center. The Waves won all five matches in straight sets.
Pepperdine improves to 3-0 on the year and 37-1 all time.
The No. 4 and No. 5 teams in the lineup took to the sand first. Emily Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) and Samantha Cash (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) teamed up to top Sara Little and Lisa Bartsch by the widest margin of the day, 21-9, 21-9.
Sophie Asprey (Southlake, Texas/Liberty Christian School/Tulane) and Katie Messing (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) followed suit, taking the first set against Sydney Haynes and Danika Youngblook, 21-9, before clinching the match 21-13 in the second frame.
The No. 1-3 pairs played next, and again all three Pepperdine pairs won in straight sets.
Becca Strehlow (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS/UCLA) and Lara Dykstra (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union HS/Nebraska) won their third straight, claiming a 21-12, 21-11 decision against the Roadrunners’ top team.
Also winning in straight sets were Kelley Larsen (Jamul, Calif./Christian HS) and Delaney Knudsen (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) at No. 2, and sisters Caitlin Racich and Taylor Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) at No. 3.
The Waves continue action at the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge tomorrow with duals vs. #5 Hawaii and Grand Canyon. The pairs championship will also get underway Saturday afternoon.
