No. 19 Pepperdine Survives Scare, Defeats Charlotte 1-0 To Remain Unbeaten On The Season

Sophomore forward Lindsey Redlin broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 64th minute of play to lift No. 19 Pepperdine to a 1-0 victory over Charlotte Sunday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.
The shutout-victory kept the Waves unbeaten and unscored upon in 2004 as they improved to 5-0-1 on the season. Charlotte remained winless on the year as the 49ers fell to 0-6-0.
Despite holding an 8-0 advantage in shots taken in the first half, Pepperdine was unable breakthrough against Charlotte goalkeeper Shannon Huffman.
The Waves were finally able to get on the scoreboard when sophomore forward Jennifer Brewer dribbled down the right side, crossed a ball to senior forward Ali Pavoni in front of the goal, who then passed to Redlin who took a shot from the left side and shot the ball inside the near post.
Pepperdine held a 19-3 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 edge in shots-on-goal.
The Waves notched their sixth shutout of the season, extending the school-record for consecutive shutouts to six. Junior goalkeeper Anna Picarelli increased her school-record shutout total to 21.
Pepperdine returns to action on Friday, September 17, when it travels to Pullman, Washington, to face Washington State at Lower Soccer Field beginning 3 p.m.
