Waves Jump to No. 11 in NSCAA Coaches Poll
Sept. 2, 2014
MALIBU, Calif. – After a 2-0 week, the Pepperdine women’s soccer team moved up to No. 11 in the NSCAA Coaches Top 25 poll this week, jumping six spots to sit just outside the Top 10.
The Waves opened the week with a 4-0 victory over Florida Atlantic and then picked up a 1-0 win over then-No. 9 North Carolina to move to 4-0-0 on the season. Pepperdine has not allowed a goal in its last 275 minutes of play, recording three straight shutouts.
The Waves also moved into the rankings for both Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer after not being ranked in either poll through week one. Soccer America lists Pepperdine at No. 13 and Top Drawer Soccer has the Waves at No. 17.
Pepperdine’s 4-0-0 start is the third time in program history that a team has opened the year with four-straight wins. The only squad to open the year 5-0-0 was the 2005 team that made it to the Sweet 16.
The Waves hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Hawaii for the Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic this weekend. The Waves will face Pac-12 foe Washington State on Friday and then have a showdown with No. 1 and defending NCAA Champs UCLA on Sunday.
Pepperdine is the highest ranked WCC team in the NSCAA poll followed by Santa Clara at No. 16 and Portland at No. 22.
