Lynn Williams Named WCC Player of the Week
Sep 2, 2013
MALIBU, Calif. – Lynn Williams led the Waves to a 2-0-1 record to start the 2013 season, including a pair of results against top-25 opponents and captured West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors in the process. A MAC Hermann Award Watch List pick, Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) scored back-to-back game-winners against Wright State and at No. 19 Texas A&M.
Williams recorded a world class goal against the Raiders firing a rocket to the far post from 25 yards. The Fresno native was not done. At Texas A&M, Williams was held without a shot in the first 20 minutes of the road contest at Texas A&M. She broke out in dramatic fashion in the second half, scoring two goals in less than two minutes against the Aggies and sealed Pepperdine’s upset win with an assist on the insurance goal by Kristen Rodriguez.
It was the third multi-goal match of her standout career and the junior now has seven career game-winning strikes. For the week, Williams registered seven points and fired 18 shots, nine of them on target.
It is the first WCC Player of the Week honors for the Waves this season and the first in Williams career.
Pepperdine continues its four-match road trip with a Midwest swing starting Friday, September 6 at No. 14 Michigan. Kick off against the Wolverines is set for 2:00 p.m. (PT) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
