MALIBU, Calif. – Michelle Pao and Lynn Williams earned a spot on the 2013 Preseason West Coast Conference team and Pepperdine was picked to finish fourth in the coaches poll as released today. Pao (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) and Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) crack the preseason squad for the second consecutive season after capturing first team All-WCC accolades in 2012.

A member of the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, Pao earned NCAA All-West Region selection for the third straight season, despite missing a pair of games with an injury. A 2011 NSCAA All-American (Second), Pao led the WCC in assists (9) and assists per game (0.47). The nine helpers rated in a share of fourth place for the most by a Wave in a single season and gave Pao 15 in her career, just one shy of cracking the top-10 all-time list.

Williams captures All-West Region selection for the second straight season as a sophomore after earning second team honors as a freshman. An All-WCC First Team pick in 2012, Williams led the league in shots (97/4.62), ranked tied for sixth in goals (8) and shared ninth in points (19). Williams, who competed for the U.S. Women’s National U-23 squad,  recorded her first career hat trick against Saint Mary’s (11/1) and registered three game-winners, two coming in WCC play: against No. 17 Santa Clara (10/14) and at Gonzaga (10/28).

Pepperdine was picked for a top-four finish in the increasingly competitive WCC, which expands to 10 teams for 2013 with the addition of Pacific. The Waves were picked second last season and advanced to its second straight NCAA postseason berth after winning its second league title in 2011.

Santa Clara was the favorite to capture the 2013 league crown, capturing nine first place votes, while Portland was selected second with one first place vote. Brigham Young, the 2012 champion secured the third spot with 67 votes, 10 in front of the Waves.
