Women's Soccer Announces 2010 Schedule
MALIBU, Calif. - Games against the Big Ten, Pac-10, a trip to Hawai'i and nine home contests are all part of an exciting and challenging 2010 women's soccer's schedule released earlier this week by Pepperdine's 13th-year head coach Tim Ward.
The Waves begin their 18th season on Aug. 20 with a home game vs. Fresno State and then venture to San Diego the following weekend for a two-day, four-team tournament that features Michigan, Arizona and the host Toreros.
On Sept. 3, Pepperdine will renew its regional rivalry against Cal State Northridge following a three-year absence with an afternoon game in the valley, and two days later begin its longest homestand of the season, playing host to Detroit (Sept. 5), UC Irvine (Sept. 10) and Dartmouth (Sept. 12).
Additional non-conference home opponents include the Cal Poly Mustangs, who visit the pitch at Tari Frahm Rokus Field on Sept. 24, and the Arizona State Sun Devils, who'll be making their second trip to Malibu in three seasons on Sept. 26.
Pepperdine's slate of road games includes a quick stay in Hawai'i, where the Waves will battle the Washington State Cougars and host Rainbow Wahine on consecutive days (Sept. 18 and 19), and trips to UCLA (Oct. 1) and Bakersfield (Oct. 3).
The Waves will remain on the road for the first three games of their West Coast Conference season, which begins Oct. 9 at Loyola Marymount. Pepperdine also will visit Gonzaga (Oct. 15), Portland (Oct. 17) and San Diego on Halloween.
Home conference games against San Francisco, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara are slated for Oct. 22, 24 and Nov. 6, respectively.
Six of this year's opponents qualified for last year's NCAA Tournament and Pepperdine's 20 foes enter 2010 with a combined record of 200-169-33 (.539).
