TOLEDO, Ohio – No. 22 Pepperdine wrapped up a tough Midwest road trip with a 3-2 loss at Toledo Sunday afternoon at Scott Park. The Waves (2-2-1) tied the match at 2-2 with eight minutes left, but the Rockets (2-4-0) were awarded a late penalty kick in the 89th minute and converted for the win.

MAC Hermann Watch List selection Lynn Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) scored twice for the Waves in her second multi-goal match of the season and fourth of her career. Williams gave Pepperdine a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute and after Toledo took a 2-1 lead, provided the equalizer in the 82nd minute. Rylee Baisden (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) assisted on Williams’ first strike.

Pepperdine could not find an answer for Rachel MacLeod, who turned in a hat trick for the Rockets.

“Our youth and inexperience really showed today,” head coach Tim Ward said. “We created so many quality scoring chances but just did not finish them. Toledo played with a lot of heart and capitalized on their chances. There were some great individual performances today. Lynn played great with two great goals. The reality is we have to get better. We have a lot of tough games coming up and we must have a great week of training to prepare.”

Pepperdine held a commanding 20-9 shot advantage, 10-4 in shots on target. Williams shared the match lead with Toledo’s MacLeod with six shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Seabert (Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian HS) had a rough day in goal, collecting one save off 10 shots and faced five corner kicks. Sam Tiongson collected the win for Toledo, corralling eight saves. The Waves started four freshmen and two redshirt freshmen for the fifth consecutive match.

Pepperdine concludes its four-match road trip Friday, Sept. 13 at crosstown rival No. 17 USC. Match time against the Trojans is set for 2:30 p.m. in a match broadcast by the Pac-12 Network. The Women of Troy will be the fourth ranked opponent for the Waves in their first six matches.
