Karle Claims 2013 LPGA Tour Card Via Playoff at Qualifying Event
Dec. 4, 2012
MALIBU, Calif. - Former Pepperdine All-American Taylore Karle will join a number of other Waves on the LPGA Tour in 2013, as she earned her spot through a playoff at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament on Sunday.
Karle shot a 3-under 357 (72-73-73-69-70) over the five rounds at the LPGA International Course in Daytona Beach, Fla., putting her into a tie for 17th place with six other golfers. Only the top 20 were awarded LGPA Tour cards.
Seven players went into a three-hole playoff for the last four guaranteed spots on the LPGA Tour, and Karle's 2-under put her through.
"Taylore's goal at an early age was to play on the LPGA Tour and with her great play at the finals, it's exciting to see that she has achieved her goal," Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said.
Karle played at Pepperdine from 2008-11. She earned All-American second team honors from both the WGCA and Golfweek as a freshman and was named to the All-West Coast Conference first team all four seasons. Karle ranks #8 in the school's records book for career scoring average (74.56).
Two other players with Pepperdine connections fared well at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. Lisa McCloskey, who earned All-American honorable mention honors each of her two seasons at Pepperdine (2009-10) before transferring to USC, finished in fifth place to earn her LPGA Tour card on her first try. Ayaka Kaneko, who was at Pepperdine for one semester (2009) before turning professional, took 68th place and will have conditional status on the LPGA Tour for the second straight year.
Another trio of former Pepperdine All-Americans -- Katherine Hull, Danielle Kang and Lindsey Wright - was on the LPGA Tour in 2012 and will be again in 2013. On the 2012 money list, Hull was 37th, Wright was 49th and Kang was 52nd.
