Llano Earns LPGA Tour Card

MALIBU, Calif. – Former Pepperdine women’s golfer Carolina Llano earned her LPGA Tour Card for 2008 following a fifth-place finish at the Final Qualifying Tournament held in Daytona Beach, Fla., from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.

In five rounds, Llano shot an 8-under 352 (69-71-69-73-70), which beat the cut line by five strokes. Four of her five rounds were under par.

“It was a long process,” Llano said. “I tried to qualify last year and I missed the conditional by one, but I was finishing school at the time so that was okay. This year I played in some of the Futures tournaments and played in the U.S. Open, but after that I got injuries and I had to stop for two months. So that was stressful.

“But I got ready for the first stage and practiced a lot. I’m very happy that everything worked out well. I played well and got everything together, so to get my tour card is very exciting. I tried to come in with a lot of confidence and I’m happy that my hard work paid off.”

Llano, who hails from Medellin, Colombia, played at Pepperdine from 2003-06. She was a three-time All-American and a three-time West Coast Conference Golfer of the Year. She also earned Academic All-American honors.

Carolina has been working very hard and it showed with her consistent play during an intense qualifying,” Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. “It will be exciting to watch her continued success on the LPGA Tour next year.”

Two other former Pepperdine players, Eileen Vargas and Misun Cho, were also in the final qualifying round, but fell short and will play in the Duramed Futures Tour in 2008.

“Eileen and Misun will benefit greatly by playing on the Duramed Futures next year and will be successful in qualifying for the LPGA Tour in 2009,” Gibbs said.
