McCloskey Named WCC Golfer of the Month
MALIBU, Calif. - Sophomore Lisa McCloskey of the Pepperdine women's golf team has been named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Month for October, the league office announced today.
McCloskey (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery HS) had a couple of strong showings at the Waves' two October tournaments. She tied for 14th place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, and then took 29th at the Landfall Tradition. The Landfall Tradition doubles as the NCAA Preview and featured 14 of the nation's top 20 teams. She averaged 75.50 strokes in her six rounds.
McCloskey, who averaged a team-best 74.33 strokes in the Waves' four fall tournaments, is ranked #59 in both the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin ratings systems.
This is McCloskey's second career WCC monthly award (she also won for October 2008). The Waves have won both WCC women's golf monthly awards so far this season, as junior Taylore Karle earned the honor for September.
Pepperdine is currently ranked #7 in the Golf World/NGCA poll, #15 by Golfweek/Sagarin and #17 by Golfstat. The Waves return to action in the spring season with the Arizona Invitational on Feb. 22-23.
