Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Pepperdine women's golf team, having to deal with a big disadvantage, finished in 17th place at The Landfall Tradition on Sunday.

The Waves were down to four players due to an illness for the second day in a row. So Pepperdine entered Sunday tied for 11th place, but without having a low score to throw out, the Waves recorded a final-round 313 to finish with a total of 919 (303-303-319).

The event was played at the par-72 Country Club of Landfall/Pete Dye Course, which will also host the 2010 Championships. This was the biggest tournament of the fall season, as 14 of Golfstat's top 20 were participating in the event (Pepperdine was #7).

Sophomore Lisa McCloskey (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery HS) led the Waves with a 29th-place finish and moved up four spots from the start of the day. She shot a 75 today to record a 224 overall (76-73-75). She had one birdie during her final round.

Sophomore Jessica Wallace (Langley, B.C./Walnut Grove Secondary) tied for 38th place at 227 (73-77-77), junior Martine de Gannes (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Maple Leaf International School) tied for 47th place at 228 (75-76-77) and sophomore Kaitlin Drolson (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) took 81st place at 244 (83-77-84). Wallace had four birdies during the third round, while Drolson had two and de Gannes had one.

Junior Taylore Karle (Scottsdale, Ariz./Laurel Springs Academy), who had a 79 in the first round, started the second round on Saturday but withdrew early on due to illness. She did not compete on Sunday either.

This was the final fall tournament for the Waves, who return to competition in February at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif.
