Women's Golf in Seventh in Washington
SAMMAMISH, Wash. Â The Pepperdine women’s golf team will look to overcome Monday’s tough first round at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington, as the Waves are in seventh place with two rounds to go.
Pepperdine, which shot a 310, will be back at the par-72 Sahalee Country Club for the next two rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Senior Leanne Bowditch (Peregian, Australia) had the best day for the Waves, as her two-over 74 puts her into eighth place. Junior Jayvie Agojo (Bangkal, Philippines) is tied for 20th with a 77, senior Stephanie Gelleni (Caracas, Venezuela) is tied for 36th with a 79, freshman Taylore Karle is tied for 41st with an 80 and junior Nicole Montgomery (Fremantle, Australia) is tied for 72nd with an 85. The course yielded few birdies to the Waves, as Bowditch had three and Gelleni had two.
“It was a struggle today,” Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. “Leanne played pretty solid. Stephanie and Jayvie got off to a slow start but held it together. Taylore had some trouble mid-round but started and finished okay. All in all, it was kind of a struggle, but with two rounds left we’re still really positive. All of the players enjoy this course and feel like they can play smart and post two good rounds.”
