Junior Eileen Vargas Tied for First After Opening Round of Dick McGuire Invitational

Albuquerque, NM - Junior All-American Eileen Vargas fired an opening-round 4-under par 69 on Monday and is currently tied for first place after the first round of the 18-team Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational that is being played at the par-73, 6,069-yard Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Vargas, who is tied with Ohio State's Jennifer Cassidy after 18 holes, helped the third-ranked Waves to a fifth-place standing after the first round. Pepperdine opened with a 4-over par 296.
Ohio State holds a six-shot advantage over USC and UNLV after posting a 5-under par 287 and is the only team that finished under par. The Trojans and Rebels carded 1-over par scores of 293.
Texas A&M is in fourth place with a 2-over par 294, two shots ahead of the Waves.
The season-opening tournament includes eight teams that are ranked in Golfweek's Preseason Top 30.
Four players are currently tied for third at 3-under par 70 while sophomore Stephanie Gelleni, who is playing as an individual, is among a group of four players tied for seventh with 2-under par totals of 71.
Senior All-American Carolina Llano is tied for 11th with a 1-under par 72.
Sophomore Marina Choi shot a 2-over 75 while sophomore Leanne Bowditch and freshman Jayvie Agojo, who is making her collegiate debut, opened with 7-over par 80s.
