Women's Golf #13 in Preseason Poll
MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's golf team is ranked #13 in the preseason Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll that was released today, and junior Taylore Karle and sophomore Lisa McCloskey are listed among the nation's top 50 players to watch.
McCloskey (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery HS) tied for 10th place at the NCAA Championships in the spring and was named a PING All-American honorable mention selection. She also earned WCC Freshman of the Year honors and was an All-WCC first team selection. Early in the season, she set an NCAA record with a 17-under 199 in winning the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Through two seasons, Karle (Scottsdale, Ariz./Laurel Springs Academy) has a stroke average of 73.79, which ranks third on Pepperdine's career list. She was a 2008 All-American second teamer and has made the All-WCC first team each of the last two seasons. She led the Waves with a 74.18 stroke average in 2008-09.
The Waves, led by 17th-year head coach Laurie Gibbs, open the fall schedule at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sept. 13-15. Pepperdine placed ninth at the NCAA Championships last season.
