Ching Named NGCA All-American Scholar

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine women's golfer Alina Ching has been awarded All-American Scholar status following her freshman season by the National Golf Coaches Association. Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) had an outstanding rookie year on the links, earning West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year honors as well as All-WCC first team acclaim in 2011-12. She finished second on the squad with a 74.67 stroke average and ended the year ranked #66 by Golfstat and #74 by Golfweek/Sagarin. Ching had a pair of second-place finishes at the `Anuenue Spring Break Classic and Bruin Wave Invitational, and led the team with a 21st-place result at the NCAA Championships. The minimum grade-point average to make the team is 3.50. Ching, a psychology major, also earned Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete status and was named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll as a freshman. "We are very proud of Alina becoming an All-American Scholar as a freshman," Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. "She had a great spring semester both in the classroom and in competition."
