Na Awarded Golfweek All-American First Team Status
June 5, 2013
MALIBU, Calif. - More good news continued to come in for Grace Na of the Pepperdine women's golf team, as she was named to Golfweek's All-American first team on Wednesday.
This is the first time that a Pepperdine golfer has earned a spot on Golfweek's first team since it began in 2006. Last week, Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) was picked to the Women's Golf Coaches Association's All-American first team. She became just the fourth player in Pepperdine history to earn a spot on WGCA's first team, and the first since 2003.
Na, who just finished her junior year and is now a three-time All-American, previously earned honorable mention status from Golfweek in 2011 and 2012 and from the WGCA in 2012.
Golfweek's All-American teams are determined by the players' Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Na ended the year ranked ninth to earn her spot on the 10-player first team.
"Grace had an excellent year," Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. "She established a new season scoring record for us and she will try to lower that in her senior year. We are very proud of her accomplishments as a student-athlete."
This is the 24th time since 2000 that a Wave has earned All-American status. A Pepperdine golfer has earned either Golfweek or WGCA All-American each of the last 14 years. Na could join Wright next season as the only four-time All-Americans in Pepperdine history.
In 2012-13, Na set a school record with a 72.17 stroke average and was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year for the third time. She was the medalist at both the WCC Championships and the `Anuenue Spring Break Classic and ended the season ranked #8 nationally by Golfstat and #9 by Golfweek/Sagarin.
Na also finished the season holding the top spot on Pepperdine's career scoring average list, with a mark of 73.31 after 81 rounds. Twenty-three of her 27 tournaments have resulted in a top-20 finish, including all 10 of them in 2012-13.
In other career categories, Na ranks fifth in sub-par rounds (23), seventh in top-20 finishes and tied for eighth in top-10 results (14). She has four career victories.
